Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposes cutting the price of hunting and fishing licenses in New York in an effort to boost the economy.

Cuomo, a recreational angler and sometime hunter, says Wednesday that he would reduce the fishing license for New Yorkers from $29 to $25 and let the license stay in effect for a full year, instead of expiring at the end of the season.

Proposed budget amendments for the 2013-2014 fiscal year would cut New Yorkers' annual hunting license fee from $29 to $22.

For out-of-state sportsmen, the fishing license would drop from $70 to $50 and the hunting license from $140 to $100.

The administration notes there are almost 1.9 million licensed fishermen and about 823,000 hunters. One survey shows sporting activity generates $8.1 billion in economic activity.
