A proposal to ban legal guns from Monroe County buildings was voted down Monday night. The final tally was 3 to 2.

Anyone who has a concealed-carry permit can still bring a gun into buildings owned or leased by the county.  Democratic lawmakers proposed the legislation, calling for a ban on legal guns expect those carried by law enforcement. They released a response to the vote saying, “There is really no legitimate reason why someone needs a gun to conduct business in a county building. We will continue to seek solutions that will ensure a safe environment for our employees and members of the public."

There is still an opportunity to call for a vote in the full legislature. That could happen March 12.
