The Federal Trade Commission took in a record number of complaints last year -- more than two-million. For the thirteenth year in a row, the top complaint was identity theft.
According to the 2012 annual report, 18-percent of all consumer complaints to the FTC were related to identity theft. That's more than 369,000 complaints. Of those complaints, more than 43-percent were related to tax or wage fraud.
The FTC says the most common ID theft related to taxes and wages is when a scammer uses your social security number and applies for a tax refund in your name.
