The state comptroller says Rochester is well-managed, but still faces major economic challenges.
In a report released Monday, Thomas DiNapoli said the city has the highest percentage of families live in poverty, compared to other cities in New York.
Rochester also ranks number one out of the four biggest cities in terms of debt issues and gets what the least amount of state aid.
City of Rochester Mayor Tom Richards spoke to the media this afternoon about this.
“The State of New York is going to have to do one of a couple of things. It's going to have to relieve us of some of the burdens that they put on us, and pay them some other way. I'm not saying these burdens are wrong, I'm just saying there's a consequence when we have to pay them, or increase the aid that we get.”
The report says budget issues will likely stay in place through the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
