The Monroe County Republican Committee is endorsing a long-time assistant district attorney for Monroe County Court Judge.

Paul Irving is running for the position. Irving currently works in the Monroe County Law Department and is a prosecutor in cases involving children and teens. He says he's prosecuted hundreds of cases including the 2009 arson fire at the Family Dollar store on North Clinton Avenue.

Irving believes his experience will help him if he were to be elected.

Paul Irving said, “A prosecutor's job isn't just to convict people, it's to promote justice. Whether it's, yes somebody's guilty, but they deserve a break' or if they are guilty, do they deserve to go to jail and be removed from the community. What's in the best interest for the community as a whole and for the victim of the crime. As a judge, I would try to do that everyday, every case I have.”

Frank Geraci previously held the position. Last December, he was chosen to become the next federal judge for the Western District of New York.
