The Public Safety Building was filled with the sound of music on Saturday as the Rochester Police Department held its final Black Heritage Month event.

Five different choirs and bands took part in a free concert that was open to the public.

Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard says the police department uses the event to tighten its bond with the community.

“At the end of the day the Rochester Police Department is part of the Rochester community. We serve the community. We're not some army that comes in to dominate the community. They look to us as public safety,” said Chief Sheppard.

Chief Sheppard also said people from all around the area and even from out of town came out to enjoy Saturday's event.
