The risk of ovarian cancer in women could be affected by working at night. More than 1,000 women were asked to detail their work history.

Researchers found women over 50 who worked night shifts had about a 25-percent higher risk of advanced ovarian cancer than day workers. They were also almost 50-percent more likely to have early stage disease.

Researchers say it could be because light suppresses the body's production of melatonin which regulates reproductive hormones.
