More than 8,000 boy scouts and girl scouts were hard at work volunteering on Saturday for the 25th annual Scouting for Food and Clothing collection drive.
The event is one of the largest community service projects in the area.
News10NBC met up with the scouts at a collection site on Maiden Lane in Greece.
The students canvassed hundreds of neighborhoods on Saturday to pick up bags filled with food and clothing donations. The food items will be sent to more than 75 food cupboards and the clothing will be sent to 10 area Goodwill stores.
Organizers say they love the support they've gotten for the event.
“It's a real heartwarming thing to see all the wonderful people out here from the fire & police departments, boy scouts, girl scouts, ABVI volunteers, everybody. It's a great thing,” said Gary Decker from Seneca Waterways Council Boy Scouts.
Last year the scouts collected more than 60 tons of food and 30 tons of clothing.
