An elementary school teacher and her husband are facing several charges in two separate fires. Police say those fires happened at two locations where the couple used to live.
The Ontario County Sheriff's Office says Steven Eagley Junior and Melissa Eagley, of Palmyra, are charged as the result of sealed grand jury indictments. They were arraigned Tuesday.
Melissa Eagley is charged with insurance fraud and grand larceny in connection with a fire in May 2010. She's also charged with third degree arson in connection with a fire in October 2011.
News10NBC has learned that Melissa Eagley was a tenured elementary special education teacher in the Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District. The district has relieved Melissa of her teaching duties and have placed her on an alternative administrative assignment.
Melissa's husband, Steven, faces the same charges in the May 2010 fire. He also faces forgery and official misconduct charges in an unrelated incident.
Both are due in court at a later date.
