Do you or someone you know have a child with autism? April is National Autism Awareness Month and Golisano Children's Hospital wants to make sure you know all the resources that area available in the community.
Many of the services and research were featured during an event Monday at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Representatives from Autism Speaks were available to answer questions.
The organization say autism is the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the U.S. and every 11 minutes, a family learns their child is autistic. Event organizers explain why there needs to be more awareness about autism resources.
Jill Aldrich, event organizer, said, "Some families have a child that was just diagnosed and they don't know what to do what's out there what steps to take. It's really scary."
You might notice a lot of people wearing blue at the event, blue is the official color of autism awareness.
