Are you one of the hundreds in our area without your professional family photos? It's all because a portrait company has closed up shop across the country.
Photo shops in Walmart and Sears are closed. The company that closed is called CPI. Employees says they closed because they went bankrupt, but in the weeks leading up to the sudden closing, they were still taking photos and now the question is when will those customers get their pictures.
Jessica Newcomb and her two-year-old daughter are at home playing, but usually Jessica wouldn't be home. She'd be working at the Geneseo Walmart PictureMe Portrait Studio at Walmart, but that all changed last Thursday.
Jessica Newcomb said, “I walked, tried to clock in and after restarting the computer several times it finally said, ' Do not clock in your studio is closed.'”
Newcomb says she had no idea this was going to happen and to make matters worse she had someone arrive to get their picture taken.
Newcomb said, “I didn't know what to do. I just had to find out why we were closed, what happened, why we weren't notified. I felt bad for her cause she had two kids.”
Newcomb knows how important these pictures can be to a family and now she is worried hundreds of customers won't get their photos. People like Claudia Phelan. She had pictures of her six-month-old son, Marco, taken at Sears just a few weeks ago. But a few days before she was supposed to pick the photos up, she got a call.
Claudia Phelan said, “They called me that Thursday saying they were no longer in business and not to bother showing up and that was that they closed up shop and we couldn't get any information.”
Phelan says it doesn't make sense to her. She says the company should have warned people they were about to close.
Phelan said, “I was really disappointed cause my mom's birthday is coming up at the end of the month and I take pictures of him everyday, let's be honest, but I just wanted something that was different, special, a nice background. We dressed him up.”
News10NBC reached out to both the company that closed, CPI, Walmart and Sears. They did not return our calls.
According to the Walmart and Sears websites, customers can get their pictures online if they have their ID number. Below are links to the websites.
There is a deadline. You only have until April 18 to do that.
