New research suggests light drinking during pregnancy does not pose negative risks to a child's development.

A British study looked at thousands of seven year olds born to mothers who either abstained from alcohol during pregnancy or who continued to drink lightly.

Children whose mothers had two drinks a week had similar behavior and cognitive scores as their peers whose mothers drank no alcohol during their pregnancies.

Researchers say more studies are needed to determine if low alcohol consumption causes any adverse effects later in childhood.
