'Clean Sweep' volunteers clear 30 tons of trash

City officials say 650 volunteers helped clean 30 tons of litter and debris Saturday morning during the first "Clean Sweep" weekend of the year.

Mayor Tom Richards joined the volunteers early this Saturday morning at Edgerton Park to begin the cleanup.

Workers will continue to clear debris across the city over the next three weekends. If you'd like to help out you can go to any of the following locations on the dates listed.

  • Saturday, May 4: Southeast Quadrant, Cobbs Hill Park, corner of Norris Drive and Culver Road.


  • Saturday, May 11: Southwest Quadrant, Genesee Valley Park, 131 Elmwood Ave.


  • Saturday, May 18, Northeast Quadrant, Norton Neighborhood Service Center, 500 Norton St.
