Greece K9 unit named in memory of Webster Police lieutenant killed in Christmas Eve ambush

There is a new officer in the Greece Police Department and on Friday, members of the department will hold a ceremony to welcome him to the force and officially name him.

The new K9 unit will be named "Chip" in honor of fallen Webster Police Lieutenant Mike Chiapperini who was killed in the Christmas Eve ambush in Webster.

Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter said, “It is tradition in law enforcement to honor our fallen heroes by naming a canine after them. It is with great humbleness and deep honor that we, the Greece Police Department dedicate this canine to the loving memory of our friend, Lieutenant Mike Chiapperini.

The ceremony will take place at Greece Town Hall at 1 p.m.
