The community is getting to meet the newest member of the Greece Police force.

Chip will serve as the newest dog for Greece's K9 unit. He is named after Lt. Mike Chiapperini, of the Webster Police Department and West Webster volunteer firefighter.  Lt. Chiapperini was killed in the Christmas Eve ambush on Lake Road in Webster.

Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering spoke at the ceremony Friday and said he already sees a lot of similarities between Chip the K9 and his namesake.

Chief Gerald Pickering, Webster Police Department, said, "If this K9 has half of the tenacity, half of the will to serve, half of the work ethic, drive and the social skills, and if he barks as fast as Mike talked, this dog, you're going to hit it out of the park with this K9 and I know that Mike is going to help guide and steer this K9."

Chip will be the partner of Officer Jeff Phillips.
