Sheriff’s deputies in Seneca County say search efforts for a missing man have been suspended because of inclement weather.
According to sheriff's deputies, 22 year-old Christopher Dennis of Ithaca left a campsite in the Town of Covert around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning by himself and put a canoe into Cayuga Lake. Deputies say when Dennis did not return, his friends began looking for him and found a canoe overturned in the middle of the lake around 12:30 p.m.
News10NBC is told that since the search began Friday morning, searchers endured four to five foot breaking waves and heavy rain and as the day went on, conditions deteriorated further. Two volunteer fire department search boats were damaged in today’s search.
Deputies say search efforts will resume at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 315-539-9241.
