A special memorial dedicated to a very special officer.

On Wednesday, teachers, students and community members at Freddie Thomas High School came together to unveil a granite bench dedicated to the memory of a fallen Rochester Police Officer Allen Smith. The bench will be added to the school's memorial garden reflecting stone project.

News10NBC was at the ceremony and spoke to Officer Allen's widow about her husband's love for Rochester's youth.

Wandah Gibbs, Widow of Officer Allen Smith, said, "He had a great love for children, great love for seeing urban students succeed and he dedicated his life to that cause. He was an urban student who rose through the ranks and did very well in life and he wanted to let kids know that anyone can succeed as long as you focus and do the right thing."

Officer Smith worked as a school resource officer at Freddie Thomas High School when he was killed in a motorcycle crash in 2002.
