Sibling rivalries linked to mental health issues

There's evidence that intense sibling rivalry could lead to mental health problems later in life.

A new study finds bullying between brothers and sisters can cause as much mental distress as that done by peers. The study looks at physical and verbal abuse, like siblings saying things to make the other feel bad or unwanted.

Researchers say parents and pediatricians should know this type of banter is not beneficial and should encourage their kids get along.

Dr. Linda Alpert Gillis, a child and adolescent psychologist, joined News10NBC's Lia Lando to talk about the study.
