Buffalo man arrested in overnight kidnapping and car theft

A Buffalo man, who police say stole a car in a gas station parking lot with a child still inside the vehicle, has been arrested.

The incident happened just after 12:30a.m. at William and Fillmore in Buffalo.

Police tell News10NBC's affiilate, WGRZ, that Shawntey Harper, 28, had left the keys inside the car, along with her child, when she went inside the gas station. Police say that's when Carl Thomas, 24, of Buffalo, took the car from the parking lot of a gas station with the three-year-old child in the car.

Thomas is charged with reckless endangerment, unauthorized use of a vehicle, grand larceny and 2nd degree kidnapping.

Police were able to locate the car on Detroit Street about 90 minutes later through surveillance video.

Harper faces a reckless endangerment charge.
