There are confirmation hearings underway in Washington on Wednesday and if all goes as planned, a local lawyer will become the first woman to be a federal judge in the Western District of New York.
Elizabeth Wolford is sitting before a senate judiciary committee Wednesday morning answering questions as her appointment is considered for approval.
Wolford grew up in Fairport and graduated from Colgate and then Notre Dame Law School.
She was recommended by Senator Charles Schumer and would replace Charles Siragusa who retired from the federal bench in December. He continues to work under what's called senior status.
