A new apartment complex that is geared towards some of Rochester's college students is about to be built.

City leaders broke ground on the new project Friday. It's called The Flats at Brooks Crossing, located at the corner of Brooks Avenue and Genesee Street, near the Brooks Landing Development.

The building has 12 stories, ten of which will be used for University of Rochester student housing.

Officials say projects like this really show the changes happening across Rochester.

Dana Miller, Rochester City Council, said, "This is a complete transformation for this neighborhood from something that was very challenged to something that is an outstanding example of how a partnership should work to make our neighborhoods better."

The mayor expects about 200 construction jobs to be created during the building process and 40 permanent jobs once the project is done.
