We have heard for years, when the temperatures got higher, tempers get hotter.

News10NBC asked Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard what he and his officers will be doing, to help keep violence at a minimum as we go through this stretch of hot weather.

Chief James Sheppard, Rochester Police, said, "As we've been doing for the last two months, as far as with our cool down details, putting our additional resources out there to address some  of these hot spots, we'll continue to do that this week, we'll probably put additional mobile units out to address the areas due to the fact that with the heat everybody will be out in the street."

The chief says he's hoping people find ways to stay cooled down and stay civil in the way they handle things.
