Sniffing out cancer

A new surgical tool could sniff out whether doctors have removed all the cancerous tissue during tumor-removal procedures.
The gadget developed by experts at Imperial College London in the UK uses a high-tech nose to smell the smoke released when surgeons are burning away tumor tissue.
In a small study, researchers found the device could accurately distinguish between cancerous and healthy tissue and it gave surgeons results in three seconds -- much faster than traditional methods.
