Members of our community celebrated a landmark achievement. The Americans with Disabilities Act Gala was held Thursday night at Artisan Works on Blossom Road.
The act expanded rights for people with disabilities. It was signed into law almost 23 years ago.
Organizers say that it is important to remember this signing and what it did for the community.
Chris Hilderbrant, Chief Operating Officer, said, "I think it's important for our group to honor the important date. It's actually July 26, the anniversary of the signing by President Bush and it's important piece of our history. This is our history."
All the proceeds from the gala benefit the Center for Disability Rights in Rochester.
