Five people had to be rescued after their boat capsized on Honeoye Lake Tuesday afternoon.

Ontario County Sheriff's Deputies say Hank Babcock, 29, of Honeoye, was operating his 1970 Astro Open Bow boat with four passengers inside when it encountered two wakes that forced water into the passenger area of the boat. Sheriff's deputies say the boat was overloaded, causing it to capsize.

Babcock and his passengers, Teddy Semperidis, 28, of Gates; Vincent Guerra, 27, of Scottsville; Ashleigh Dunbar, 26, and Shanna M. Thompson, 20, both of Chili, were forced into the water. A passing boat picked up the five and brought them to shore unharmed. Sheriff's deputies say they were not wearing life jackets.

Sheriff's Deputies say the boat sank to the bottom in 20 feet of water.

Babcock was issued a ticket for reckless operation of vessel. He will appear in Town of Richmond Court at a later date.
