Crowds of people were waiting along Park Avenue just hoping to see the President, even if it was only for a second or two.
If you were in the Park Avenue area Thursday, you likely saw the swarms of police cars and crowds of people along the street. Some just happened to be in the area, working or stopping by for lunch. Others, like the Hughes family, heard on the radio where the President was and they rushed to Park Avenue. They ended up shaking hands with Mr. Obama and 8-year-old Ava Hughes says, "It was the most amazing time in her life."
Ava Hughes said, "We were like driving all around trying to find him following where the cops were going. So we finally parked the car and got out and walked down a couple streets and saw the police like blocking off roads. We came down here and we found this, so then we got invited to come a little closer so we could actually shake hands with the President!"
Andrea Hughes said, "When we got picked out of line down there to come up here I just started to cry because this is so exciting for them. I'm just so happy they got to do something, you know history! History!"
When those girls got back to school, they'll have a great story to tell about who they met on summer vacation.
