City leaders addressed the violence in Rochester Monday night, At the first of four Voice of the Citizen events.

The idea is to give the public a chance to voice their ideas on curbing violence. Those ideas will then be voted on and some implemented early next year.

The City of Rochester has $200,000 in its budget for public safety improvements. They created this event after different cities turned to the public for help, including New York City.

We spoke with deputy mayor, Len Redon, who says it was a great turnout.

"They were very successful with it and we thought it would work well in Rochester because we have a lot of concerned citizens who care a lot and we're getting some good ideas tonight."

This follows two back to back weekends of violence in the city.
