"Maintain, don't gain"

If you or someone you know is struggling to lose weight, you might want to switch gears and try to maintain your weight instead of forcing yourself to lose it.

Researchers at Duke University found if dieters changed their focus to not gaining weight rather than losing pounds, they were more likely to see long-term results.

The study involved nearly 200 women who were overweight. They stuck to a holistic plan, boosted daily activity and had monthly diet counseling.

After a year, close to two-thirds of the group were at or below their starting weight, beating the usual annual weight gain of one to two pounds a year.
