Over the last two weekends three people have lost their lives to violence and others have been wounded on the city's southwest side.

Tuesday night Rochester's Police Chief and Mayor met people living in the area of Chili Avenue and Sherwood Avenue as part of their “Chief on the Street” initiative. It's an opportunity for people to talk with officials about what's going on in their neighborhood.

Chief James Sheppard tells News10NBC police received a request to come to this area before the recent wave of violence and he hopes events like this will keep it from continuing.

“We're sad that some things have occurred in the neighborhood over the last few weeks that have caused a great deal of concern for the people who live here. Hopefully, based on some of this stuff that we're doing proactively relative to addressing some of these issues and being out here and walking will help reduce some of these occurrences,” said Chief Sheppard.

Many of the recent crimes in that area are still not solved.

If you have information that could help police officers urge you to call 911. You can tell the operator you want to remain anonymous.
