There are plenty of new things greeting students, parents and teachers at area schools but the biggest change this year goes to Churchville-Chili High School. Even members of the community are in awe of the new performing arts center. It took several years and millions of dollars to build and it is state of the art.

It seats more than 1,200 people, has high tech lighting and sound equipment and will help the school put on top notch performances.

The principal of Churchville-Chili says it's still important to invest in the arts. Bill Geraci said, “I’m a pretty strong believer in that I think high schools have a responsibility to provide a well-rounded education – not just math, science, social studies and English. If you take arts out of that, you’re taking a big piece out of a liberal arts education.”

The performing arts center is only one part of a massive project at Churchville-Chili High School.

The district also built new classrooms, offices and science labs with a total price tag of $56-million. Taxes were not raised to get it done. The funding comes from the school's reserves and state aid.

The high school was built in the 1960's and this is the first major upgrade since then.
