A 42-year-old man is facing attempted murder charges after police say he tried to run over a state trooper.

State Police tell News10NBC they received a call for a suspicious vehicle on State Route 18 in the Town of Yates around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday. When the trooper tried to stop the vehicle, police say the driver -- Carlos Botello of Kendall -- took off.

After a brief chase, police say Botello eventually pulled over. Investigators say when the trooper approached the vehicle, Botello put the car in reverse and drove directly at him. The trooper was able to get out the way but his patrol car was hit.

According to police, Botello took off again but was eventually stopped and taken into custody.

He is charged with second-degree attempted murder, unlawfully fleeing and DWI. Botello was remanded to the Orleans County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
