City Council President Lovely Warren has won the Democratic primary with an upset over Mayor Tom Richards' bid for a first full term.

Warren could become the first female mayor of Rochester once the general election is held in November.

This was a big upset for the Democratic Party, which backed the incumbent mayor in this primary election.

Warren received just over 58-percent of the vote to Mayor Richards' 41.5-percent.

Warren will now face Green Party candidate Alex White in November. News10NBC spoke to him after the results came out Tuesday night. Here's what he had to say about the primary results.

“I'm looking forward to the next month and and a half. The Rochester people have spoken. They want a change and I'm ready to talk about what we need to do," said White.

News10NBC got reaction from both Warren and Richards Tuesday night. To hear from Warren press play on the video player above.
