Family, friends and people from all over our area came to welcome a group of wounded warriors this afternoon at the Rochester International Airport.
This group of servicemen and women come from all over the country. They're taking part in the Rochester River Challenge tomorrow at the Genesee Waterways Center. Some of them were injured only a few months ago, others have been recovering for a long time.
The event, which is a canoe race, gives the wounded warriors an opportunity to come together and talk about their experiences, and to heal.
Marine, Daniel Gilyeat said, "So this is a time to reflect to be able to open up and talk about the struggles and the trials and tribulations that we've been through, and to talk about the survivors guilt and the suicidal thoughts and divorce and everything else that our young men and women go through so it is a great time to heal."
This is the 17th year for the Rochester River Challenge, and the 9th year that a group of wounded warriors has come to participate.
