It's a debilitating illness that affects more than a million people in our country.

On Sunday hundreds gathered at Monroe Community College to raise money for a cure to Parkinson's disease.

The Moving Day Campaign is an event sponsored by the National Parkinson's Foundation. News10NBC is told the walk is a grassroots campaign to spotlight the disease.

Organizers say raising money is important, but so is bringing awareness to this deadly disease.

"For Parkinson's it's important to keep moving and that is the whole focus of today's event is movement, over in our movement pavilion, movement around the campus, keep moving and get through the symptoms of Parkinson's,” said Denise Dufek,  National Parkinson's Foundation co-entertainment chair.

News10NBC is told the moving day campaign has raised more than $2-million dollars for research in just two years.
