The Department of Environmental Conservation has released information about the upcoming goose and duck hunting seasons, including season dates and updated regulations.
The season and hunting zone configurations were developed by a team of biologists around the state with input from hunters. The state's waterfowl management zone system provides hunters with open seasons in various parts of the state from September to April.
Most duck season dates are similar to last year, and most bag limits are unchanged. The first opening date is in the northeastern zone on Sept. 21. The September goose season is already underway.
A special season for snow geese will be open in all of upstate New York from January 16 through April 15 because the birds have become too numerous and are damaging wetlands.
