Tourism means business and local leaders are hoping that business will continue to be in our area.
Officials came together Friday for a celebration of the Finger Lakes tourism industry. They say that industry has meant a billion dollars in business just this year alone and 20,000 jobs for our area. Now they are hoping those numbers will continue to grow with the help of the Finger Lakes.
Don Jeffries of Visit Rochester said, “I always say when you talk to someone and they don't say they're going to Eagle Bay. They don't say they're going to inlet. They say they're going to the Adirondacks. We need people to come to the Finger Lakes region. Where else could you go to the National Museum, the largest toy museum in the world and 35 minutes later be water skiing in the Finger Lakes. That's what we're trying to promote."
Officials say one in every 12 New York State jobs are sustained by tourism and across the state, tourism brought in more than $7-billion in tax revenue just last year.
