A big boost for women in the Rochester community. On Tuesday, the YWCA held a "wall-breaking"to kick off its newest expansion on North Clinton Avenue.

The newest work will renovate the current building, rehabbing the 96 existing residential units, common areas, program spaces and administrative space. It will also add 14 new apartments.

A former resident of the YWCA, who went there from a chemical dependency treatment facility, says her life was changed because of the YWCA.

Dellenna Harper, former resident, YWCA, said, "Here is where I was able to grow into a woman of integrity. Today, a woman with self respect, today an empowered woman. A productive member of my society and I love who I am today and I love the woman that I am today."

Since her time at the YWCA, Harper has complete her education. She graduated with a master's degree in social work this past May and she now serves as the director of the facility where she was treated for her chemical dependency.
