Three women have been arrested after sheriff's deputies say they stole seven pure bred pit bull puppies from an unlocked shed in Cayuga County Wednesday morning.

Tonya C. Henry, 28, and Ashley D. Montgomery, 27, both of Auburn, and Cheyenne I. Whitmore, 21, of Port Byron, are facing charges in connection with the theft and possession of the seven pit bull puppies.

Investigators say the puppies were stolen from an unlocked shed on NYS Rt. 90 in Montezuma Wednesday morning. According to the owner, the puppies are worth $4,900.

Sheriff's detectives say they received numerous tips following media coverage Wednesday evening. They received calls from two people who had the puppies and wished to return them. Sheriff's detectives say none of the three women arrested are the one surrendered the puppies. The puppies were returned Wednesday evening.
