UPDATE: Canandaigua man dies from injuries caused by Hopewell crash

A 62-year-old Canandaigua man has died from injuries suffered when he and his vehicle caught fire in the Town of Hopewell. Sheriff's deputies tell News10NBC Thomas Devine died at Strong Memorial Hospital around 10:30 Monday night.

The crash happened early Monday morning on Routes 5 and 20. Sheriff’s deputies tell News10NBC Devine was driving westbound when for some reason he went off the road. His car slammed into a mailbox, went down an embankment, hit some trees and then that car caught fire. Other drivers on the road stopped and told deputies the man was outside the burning car and he too was on fire. Rescuers quickly arrived and put out the flames.

Devine was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital via Mercy Flight.
