NY extends comment time for liquefied natural gas

Created: 10/28/2013 4:18 AM WHEC.com

State officials are giving the public another month to weigh in on a proposal to allow new liquefied natural gas facilities in the state for the first time in 40 years.

The comment period on the proposed regulations had been slated to end on Nov. 4, but it's been extended until Dec. 4.

A public hearing on the regulations is scheduled for Wednesday in Albany.

Groups opposed to hydraulic fracturing for natural gas have raised concerns about the new rules, saying among other things that new facilities would increase pressure to lift the state's 5-year-old ban on fracking.

Proponents say new liquefied natural gas facilities would allow truck fleets using the fuel to pass through New York.

The regulations are on the Department of Environmental Conservation's website. Click here to read them.
