How many times have you said or heard someone say "that scared me to death!" Have you ever wondered is it really possible to be scared to death?
Scary stuff can get your heart racing. But is it really enough to give you a heart attack? University of Rochester Medical Center cardiologist Dr. Eugene Storoznsky says yes, it is possible to be scared to death. But he does say it's extremely rare.
Dr. Eugene Storoznsky, URMC, said, "If you have an underlying heart condition, that might put you at risk for negatively responding to a surge of adrenaline then that can certainly cause you to have abnormal heart rhythms which can than lead to instances in which your heart can stop and that's a condition that we call sudden cardiac death."
The doctor says if you have any kind of heart condition you'll want to stay away from those scary situations. But if your heart is healthy, remember it's extremely rare to be scared to death.
