It's raised nearly $1 million for diabetes research. On Wednesday, American Diabetes Association officials came together to kick off the 2014 Tour de Cure.
There's something different for the cycling event this year. The Tour de Cure is going on a tour of its own.
The Midtown Athletic Club's team “Chain Reaction” has 160 people on their team. In the past nine years, they have raised $230,000 for the American Diabetes Association.
Travis Heider, Executive Director, ADA of Upstate NY, said, "The great thing about this event is that it is living the mission at the same time. People exercising is a great preventer of diabetes. It's a great way to manage diabetes if you have diabetes and it's a great healthy-living activity that's sustainable and people can have an enormous amount of fun doing."
Every month from October to May, the Tour de Cure visits Rochester-area landmarks to raise awareness for the yearly ride and diabetes.
