It a safe space for children affected by family or health crisis. The Crisis Nursery of Greater Rochester is now part of the Center for Youth.

The nursery announced today that with approval from the State Attorney General, it will join forces with the Center for Youth, a non-profit dedicated to helping teens who are homeless.

The nursery was in danger of closing before the merger, as a result of cuts to state funding.

We spoke with the Executive Director of the Center for Youth, Elaine Spaull, about what services the nursery can provide for families.

“Most the kids who come here come because their moms or dads or grandmas have a medical emergency. Have other kids of issues where they just really have a crisis. Sometimes a little sibling is ill or maybe having surgery in the hospital. So the other child will come here.”

Officials say that the Center for Youth is now in charge of the nursery's operations, providing staff and support for fundraising.
