New law will require gambling help signs in casinos

A new state law will require gambling facilities to clearly post signs with the New York’s 24-hour gambling helpline.

The signs will have to be within a reasonable distance of each entrance and exit.

One million New Yorkers have been identified as having a gambling problem but the state says the most recent numbers show only about 1,500 calls came in to the helpline in 2011.

The new law takes effect in March.
