Local church leaders are calling for a change. Already this year, Rochester has seen 32 homicides in the city of Rochester alone. Now church leaders are calling for the community to come together, and fix this problem once and for all.

Church leaders say it's about collaboration and communication. They will hold a summit in early December where people can come together and develop a specific plan towards peace in the city of Rochester.

Members of the United Christian Leadership Ministry say right now they're considering a number of different approaches. They plan to find men who can be role models for children and get them involved in community activities. They also want to act as a middle man for disputes. Their hope is that people will come to them with an issue and they can help resolve it.

The announcement comes on the heels of the murder of 15-year-old Tysean Williams. He was gunned down in his home by intruders. News10NBC talked to Reverend Lewis Stewart about the plan.

Rev. Lewis Stewart, United Christian Leadership Ministry, said, “This is a proactive stance, because never before have we called upon the black church community in a summit for religious leaders and lay persons to come together and explore ways to deal with this particular issues. Often it takes a situation like Tysean Williams, and others, to arouse the consciousness of people and drive them with an energetic force to do something.”

The summit will be December 7 at High Grounds Ministry. While it is primarily for church and community leaders, if someone in the community wants to get involved, they won't turn them away.

This group is looking for volunteers. If you are interested in helping out, please call 585-451-6982.
