Students at the University of Rochester took the time today to help make sure others have a happy holiday. It’s all part of the Simon Business School’s Secret Santa Program.

Today the group held a party to wrap donated items like toys, clothes and school supplies for children in need.

We spoke with some volunteers today who say they're excited about reaching out to the community. Tonya Reetz said, “To put a smile on a child's face is the best thing so opening up a gift they wouldn't otherwise have if it weren't for our program is basically what we're trying to do. We're trying to get them to smile and have fun on Christmas because some kids whose houses have burned down don't have anything and the families don't have the money to afford Christmas so we're trying to put some Christmas into their lives.”

Last year the group raise more than $14,000 and helped to supply items to nearly 200 children.
