Warning: New computer virus disguised as UPS/FedEx link

Created: 12/16/2013 10:31 PM WHEC.com

A new computer virus disguised as links from popular shipping companies are causing shoppers undue stress this holiday season.

Cyber attackers have launched a virus called "Crypto Locker" that can destroy your computer files. Users are tricked into clicking on links that look like they are from UPS or FedEx. If you click on the links, a red window demanding a ransom appears. The ransom promises to restore your files. If you click on the link and receive this ransom, unplug your computer as soon as possible and call an IT service provider. If your files were not backed up, they could be gone forever.

Customers expecting shipping correspondence from UPS or FedEx are advised to go to the companies' official websites.
