The Livingston County Sheriff is being honored for his dedication to the job.

Sheriff John York was presented with the Grover Cleveland Award, an honor given to those who have shown dedication and excellence in the law enforcement field. The 44-year veteran originally started as an emergency dispatcher and worked his way up the ranks.

"It is my sincere belief that the best law enforcement and public safety in the United States is the office of Sheriff," York says. His son, Kyle, is following in his fathers footsteps as a member of the Durham Police department in North Carolina.

Sheriff York announced his retirement earlier this year. He plans on spending his free time fishing and enjoying his grandchildren. Investigator Tom Dougherty was elected in November to replace Sheriff York.
