When the temperatures get low, pets shouldn't be left outside for too long. But what about animals that live outside like at the Seneca Park Zoo.
The zoo is opened all winter long, except Christmas.
News10NBC spoke to the zoo's director about what officials there do to keep the animals safe in these low temperatures.
Larry Sorel, Zoo Director, said, "When it gets this cold, it heightens precautions. We usually take in the winter, extra bedding. We do keep some animals in, add extra heat where we can, but there's obviously some animals that love this weather."
One of the animals that like the cold is the polar bears. The zoo's male polar bear, Zero, was outside enjoying the conditions. The female bear, Aurora, also came out for a little cold air. Zoo officials say the tigers and snow leopards also love this weather and even the elephants and rhinos will occasionally come outside for some fresh air.
