The state of New York is taking a lesson from Rochester City Schools. Currently, through state aid and grant money, the Rochester City School District offers a Universal Pre-K program with plans to expand it.

Now state lawmakers would like to see all districts in the state have similar programs. To do that, Governor Cuomo is looking to spend $1.4 billion over the next five years.

Support in Albany for the plan is growing.

Senator Ted O’Brien, 55th Senate District, said, “Suburban, urban, rural districts all across the state because we know pre-education funding is where you get the best bang for your buck it's something that needs to be done and all children should participate in it.”

Currently, the Rochester Pre-K program has more than $2,000 students enrolled. Mayor Lovely Warren is now working to expand it.
